This fin has its roots in George’s windsurfer! He, and others, have lent strong encouragement to bring this design to the surf world. The basic theory is a “stiff leg” and “active paddle” (sometimes called the paddle fin). By putting the working part of the fin deeper in the “clean” water, the feeling is solid yet highly maneuverable. This fin is one of the only designs we have ever claimed to noseride as well as it performs in the turns. The 9.75” is a perfect complement to a 9’6” single fin. These fins surf a bit smaller than their size compared with conventional fin sizing.

This 10" flex fin is the brainchild of the ultra talented surfer and shaper Troy Elmore. Troy drew on inspiration for this template from a variety of tried and true design theories, and combined them to create a tremendously versatile longboard fin.

With a wide 8" base, the Elmore Flex fin has great stability when forward on the board, while also providing ample drive off the bottom. The fin smoothly transitions into a sensitive flex tip to allow for pocket maneuverability as well as rail to rail transitions.

Kai is one of the of the best longboarders of his generation, with a smooth but radical style in any conditions. Ever-curious with an obsessive attention to detail, he brings an analytical approach to his surfing and designs. Kai has been instrumental in testing and providing feedback for our single fin range, so releasing a fin design together was a no brainer! Kai was searching for a fin template that would have better control than your average longboard fin in surf of the 3-5ft range, particularly when the waves are more powerful. He needed something that would release with control, when other fins would tend to spin out. This fin also works great in 1-2ft surf where there’s draw off the bottom and a bit more juice in the wave, pivoting well and providing excellent noseriding control.

Our Volan fins are fine tuned with a precision foil as well as proper flex. They are handmade in our factory and go through the strictest quality control. Fins made with Volan fiberglass and properly aligned for optimal weave orientation have very high performance flex characteristics — with the flex coming more from the body of the fin rather than just at the tip.
