Takuya "Tappy" Yoshikawa is a passionate and innovative Japanese surfboard shaper who combines tradition and modernity to create unique and quality products. He started surfing at the age of 12 and shaped his first board at the age of 17. Along the way, he went to art school to study graphic art. After a ten-year break, he returned to making boards at the age of 30 and continues to do so today. Tappy Yoshikawa was influenced by San Diego shaping legend Skip Frye, whom he had the opportunity to watch work, which was a valuable experience for him.

These fins are designed by George Greenough and are targeted at the “Edge” board project. The outline is a very slender design that will harness heaps of power while maintaining very low drag. Longer, point break style waves are the venue to realize full potential. Look for more on this design in the future as we experiment with different materials and flex patterns. Currently we are making these fins in Volan and we try to keep them relatively stiff. If there is too much flex they tend to lose power.

Our Volan fins are fine tuned with a precision foil as well as proper flex. They are handmade in our factory and go through the strictest quality control. Fins made with Volan fiberglass and properly aligned for optimal weave orientation have very high performance flex characteristics — with the flex coming more from the body of the fin rather than just at the tip.

Originally popular as glass-ons in the 1960's, now "D” fins sometimes need to be put in fin boxes. The larger area of the D-Fin fins allows for classic drop knee style turns and easy nose riding. Try one on your log and take a trip to the past.

The D-2 is 9.0” deep and has a 9.75” base.
The D-Fins will just fit in the 10” standard fin box because we have made an overhang in the rear of the fin. You may have to take out your “fin box leg rope” but mostly we know D-fin riders do not use such newfangled attachments anyway.

This fin's fuller than normal leading edge, combined with the slender tipped but full-based template targets smooth rail turns while harnessing maximum power. Usually powering a “hull” type shape or mid-length surfboard this fin excels in combination with thin rails and vee to flat bottom. This fin has its roots in George’s windsurfer! He, and others, have lent strong encouragement to bring this design to the surf world. The basic theory is a “stiff leg” and “active paddle” (sometimes called the paddle fin). By putting the working part of the fin deeper in the “clean” water, the feeling is solid yet highly maneuverable. This fin is one of the only designs we have ever claimed to noseride as well as it performs in the turns. The 9.75” is a perfect complement to a 9’6” single fin. These fins surf a bit smaller than their size compared with conventional fin sizing.

In close collaboration with George Greenough, we modified the outline of the Power Glide 45 to incorporate more rake, more flex, as well as softer curves.

Suitably named the 'Power Glide', this fin will hold it's line through larger and smoother arcing turns. In addition to the added rake, this fin also has more overall area than the Power Blade which will feel a bit more steady and reliable under your feet. Lastly, the Power Glide 45 also has a greater amount of flex resulting in more responsive and adaptable performance. The overall goal was to provide an offering that has easier handling, and will be more applicable in a wide range of uses / surf conditions.

The Greenough 4-C is one of the most classic, fundamental single fin designs for a longboard…ever!

The 4-C is a direct descendant of Greenough’s “Stage 4” tuna fin-inspired designs from the early ‘70s; this iteration was conceived earlier on in the evolution of the Greenough and True Ames collaboration that ultimately led to the 4-A. The 4-C template represents the first step taken in the move away from a traditional pivot fin. Greenough kept the upright nature and minimal rake of a pivot fin, but shaved off a considerable amount of surface area in pursuit of a more high-aspect ratio design. This translates to a higher performance fin that is even more maneuverable, and faster down the line with less drag.

Josh Faberow has done it again with this update to his modern classic flex series. While keeping true to many of the classic design features of the beloved "Farb Flex", tweaks were made to increase performance in both noseriding and maneuverability.

Josh started by increasing the base width to provide increased drive off the bottom and more stability while on the nose. Next the rake was increased to allow for a longer sweeping arc on turns and improved release. Additional flex has been added to the design by thinning the foil in the tip of the fin. With the increase in flex, our volan material was a natural pairing with the design to create optimal flex and increased projection.

The Faberow Flex Volan Pro Model is a well balanced fin that will work well in a variety of longboards, while increasing performance.
