菜刀其實是很廣義的定義來形容 pivotal turning (軸心轉向)，而且整個衝浪歷史演進過程中，從D舵到各式各樣的Pivot(樞紐)風格的舵，都是浪人跟削板師持續發展與追求的目標。每個菜刀的材質跟template(舵型)都很有意思，也需要浪人去感受。沒有什麼template或風格是好與不好或對與錯，重點是浪人轉的開心跟達到"完美平衡"最重要～

The Tappy 1 is Tappy Yoshikawa’s masterful interpretation of a classic pivot fin design. The upright nature of this design allows for quick directional changes when your foot is over the fin area, and hold in the face of the wave when you move to the nose. The medium base and full tip area of this fin combine to create a multi dimensional fin that is sure to enhance any log you throw it in.

Takuya "Tappy" Yoshikawa is a passionate and innovative Japanese surfboard shaper who combines tradition and modernity to create unique and quality products. He started surfing at the age of 12 and shaped his first board at the age of 17. Along the way, he went to art school to study graphic art. After a ten-year break, he returned to making boards at the age of 30 and continues to do so today. Tappy Yoshikawa was influenced by San Diego shaping legend Skip Frye, whom he had the opportunity to watch work, which was a valuable experience for him.

We definitely have not reinvented the wheel here, in fact, full praise goes to good friends Lachlan "Lechie" And Cuts Doloro AKA Alex of Moffat Beach for their interpretation of the lesser-known Greenough Stage three-wave set fin they designed some 4-5 years ago.

It wasn't until The Salty Merchants took a back seat in recent years that Jarryd Watson couldn't let this fin go by the wayside and continued to hand foil every single one here in Australia. It was this fin that inspired nearly every aspect of design in Jarryd's OSS logs thereafter.

The Greenough 4-C is one of the most classic, fundamental single fin designs for a longboard…ever!

The 4-C is a direct descendant of Greenough’s “Stage 4” tuna fin-inspired designs from the early ‘70s; this iteration was conceived earlier on in the evolution of the Greenough and True Ames collaboration that ultimately led to the 4-A. The 4-C template represents the first step taken in the move away from a traditional pivot fin. Greenough kept the upright nature and minimal rake of a pivot fin, but shaved off a considerable amount of surface area in pursuit of a more high-aspect ratio design. This translates to a higher performance fin that is even more maneuverable, and faster down the line with less drag.

The Dewey Weber Hatchet Fin was designed by Dewey in 1965. The original template was a massive 18” and was called the ‘Turn Fin’, before adopting the nickname, the ‘Hatchet Fin’. Once the function of the fin was set, Dewey worked on a profile that would be synonymous with the Weber Performer & Dewey Weber Surfboards. Today we offer two sizes, and these have been used in many traditional longboards with great results.

Originally popular as glass-ons in the 1960's, now "D” fins sometimes need to be put in fin boxes. The larger area of the D-Fin fins allows for classic drop knee style turns and easy nose riding. Try one on your log and take a trip to the past.

The D-2 is 9.0” deep and has a 9.75” base.
The D-Fins will just fit in the 10” standard fin box because we have made an overhang in the rear of the fin. You may have to take out your “fin box leg rope” but mostly we know D-fin riders do not use such newfangled attachments anyway.

Here lies the transition fin from the D-fin to anything that turns. In the mid 60’s Yater removed the back area from the traditional D-fin to create a “looser” feeling design. True to its namesake, this fin is the perfect complement to the “Yater Spoon” surfboard.

The witches finger was designed with critical and sharp surfing in mind. Its refined tip flex is perfect for putting a board on rail whilst a solid and driving base with 7 3/4 width still allows for some time on the nose.
This fin is perfectly suited to logs with wide point back/ hips and some straighter railed modern single fin logs.
This is the ideal fin for beach breaks, small sand bottom, and rocky point breaks where some fancy footwork with fast adjustments is needed.
